The Funeral Director Apprentice works under the supervision and direction of licensed funeral directors to learn and assist with all aspects of funeral service operations. Responsibilities include assisting with the transportation and care of decedents, preparing and setting up for visitations and funeral services, assisting with embalming and other preparation procedures as permitted by law, and supporting funeral directors in making arrangements with families.
The Apprentice will assist with funeral and memorial services, transportation, documentation, vendor coordination, facility preparation, and other operational duties while developing the knowledge and skills necessary for licensure as a funeral director and embalmer. The position requires professionalism, compassion, attention to detail, confidentiality, and compliance with all applicable federal and state laws, OSHA regulations, and company policies and procedures.
The Apprentice will participate in an on-call rotation as required, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, and will work collaboratively with funeral directors, coworkers, families, vendors, and other service providers. Additional responsibilities may include assisting with community outreach, preplanning education, facility and vehicle upkeep, and other duties necessary to support the funeral home’s daily operations and the families it serves.
Requirements & Qualifications:

- Associates or Bachelor’s Degree in Mortuary Science
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Must be able to work evenings and weekends as needed
- Valid state issued driver’s license in good standing and acceptable driving record
- Ability to lift 75lbs+
